Southfield is a diverse, lively city and both Michigan's premier business center and one of Metro Detroit's most desirable residential communities.

The City of Southfield is located in southeast Oakland County with a population of just over 71,000. The city is conveniently located just minutes from almost anywhere in the metro area, making it not only the “center of it all” geographically but also the business and leisure center of southeast Michigan as well.

Southfield is centrally located and is only 20-30 minutes from Downtown Detroit, Detroit Metro Airport, and most other locations in Southeast Michigan, including Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, and Mt. Clemens. The headquarters of Daimler Chrysler, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors all are located within 20 minutes of Southfield. The city also has convenient access to public transportation and community transit is available through the SMART (Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation) bus system.

Southfield is a diverse city filled with people from a rich array of cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, including large Armenian, Black American, Jewish, Chaldean, and Russian populations. Some of Southfield’s most recognizable landmarks demonstrate the city’s diversity, from the gold-domed St. John’s Armenian church to the landmark edifice of Congregation Shaarey Zedek synagogue, all among some of the most beautiful religious architecture in the metro area.

The city houses more than 27 million square feet of office space, more than the central business districts of Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis or Kansas City, and over 7 million square feet of retail and industrial space, making it an undisputed business center. Southfield also boasts more than 10,000 businesses, including over 100 “Fortune 500” companies.

The City of Southfield is not only Michigan’s premier business center, it is also one of the metro area’s most desirable residential communities. Southfield offers a complete living community with a variety of well-maintained homes and neighborhoods, a nationally recognized public school system, seven colleges and universities, and more than 800 acres of parkland. There are more than 35,000 residential units ranging from single-family homes and condominiums to apartments and townhouses.

Southfield has many recreational options. The Southfield Municipal Complex is home to the Miracle League Field of Dreams, Michigan’s first baseball field for children with a physical or mental disability, as well as the Southfield Sports Arena, which houses an ice rink and outdoor pool, Evergreen Hills 9-hole golf course, and Evergreen Woods Nature Trail. The city is also home to the 25,000-square-foot Southfield Pavilion and the state-of-the-art Southfield Public Library, which welcomes more than 2,700 visitors daily and is home to three floors of beautiful architecture and more than 250,000 books. Southfield also boasts numerous retailers and restaurants, including over 200 restaurants with options from around the world.
