Southeast Michigan is home to many small businesses that are the lifeblood of creatives and entrepreneurs in our community. In these uncertain times, communities are coming together to #supportlocal. Beyond restaurants that we can order carry-out or delivery from, there are thousands of other small businesses in the DMA we can support, despite being unable to visit them in-person. Here’s a list of some of my favorites, and in some cases unique ways they’re overcoming the current situation:
A Detroit based jewelry brand that makes pieces from fallen graffiti around the city (including collections from Joe Louis Arena and Michigan Central Station). An import form Grand Rapids, MadCap Coffee opened its Detroit location in Parker’s Alley, behind the Shinola Hotel just over a year ago. Did you know that Michigan has its very own Tequila brand? Proud maker of the world’s only Lime Coconut Tequila, Teeq Tequila can be found in a ton of local liquor stores. Local Photographer Joe Gall, or Camera Jesus, takes iconic shots of some of Detroit’s most infamous landmarks, concerts & celebrations. Recently, he turned 90 of his images into puzzles, with 4 different sizes to choose from.
Ten Nail Bar
While they had to cease operation temporarily due to the Governor’s Execuive Order, Ten Nail Bar is still building community on social media. They started the #athomeperfect10 challenge on Instagram earlier this week and are offering tips and tricks in their stories to perfect the at home manicure.
