On Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, Bedrock’s Decked Out Detroit’s Downtown Holiday Market returned to Cadillac Square. The Holiday Market is part of Bedrock’s ongoing effort to support Detroit small businesses and the community. On its opening day, Let’s Detroit stopped by and got to know many of the small business owners and workers who set up shop in Cadillac Square for the holiday season. Get to know some of the businesses below and see what products they have that may make a perfect gift for you or someone you know.
Find a holiday gift for your pet or a family or friend’s furry friend at the 3 Dogs 1 Cat pop-up shop. The small business specializes in unique, eclectic, and affordable pet merchandise, including clothing, treats, and toys. There’s a gift for every type of pet.
Treat someone in your life who loves to decorate their home with luxury items to a handmade resin tray from Abode Impression, a small business owned by Kristen Nicole. The company specializes in hand-painted and hand-poured home décor, including decorative trays of various sizes, coasters, and other home accessories. They also do custom orders and interior design consultations.
Founded in 2018 by Dessaray Seay, Bow-Aholic Bowtique was created to provide unique, high-quality, handmade accessories for mothers and daughters. Seay shared she makes her items to be cherished, uplift, and motivate her audience. When asked the perfect gift for the holidays, Seay chose one of the gold and pink sparkly bows, but almost anything in-store, ranging from hair bows to t-shirts to jewelry, would make a lovely gift.
Give the gift of Detroit this holiday season with apparel from Detroit Hustles Harder. The shop features menswear, women’s clothing, youth, infant and toddler clothing, headwear, facemasks, footwear, accessories, and home goods. During the Holiday Market, Detroit Hustles Harder recommended one of their sweatshirts, which comes in various colors.
Get a unique Detroit-themed gift for a friend or family member this holiday season at Detroit Man and Woman Collection. The small business specializes in clothing, hats, drinkware, and even outfits for babies. Customers can also order customized items for a little more uniqueness.
Give the beauty and body care lover in your life a holiday gift from Essence by Noble, a sustainable, all-natural, and 100% vegan and palm oil-free soap and personal care product line that is handmade in Detroit. Aaron Noble and Jai Machen-Whitworth co-founded Essence by Noble to make biodegradable and low-waste products readily available to customers, with the idea that people talking about their company in a couple of generations are talking about them because they love their products, not because they are picking up trash with their name on it. Its products range from natural deodorant to lip balm, shaving soap to shampoo bars, and more, providing ample gift options to choose from.
Treat the fashion lover in your life to a gift from Ferosh the Label, a Detroit-based clothing store that provides original, high-quality clothes, jewelry, and accessories. During the Holiday Market, Ferosh the Label recommended a cute fringe jacket as a holiday gift for ladies who like stand-out pieces in their closet.
Yvonne Spampinato shared with Let’s Detroit her sophisticated and affordable jewelry line, titled KEPT Jewelry, during the Holiday Market. Recently stocked for the holidays, KEPT Jewelry features many bohemian-style pieces for those who like statement and minimalistic pieces. Spampinato recommended one of the line’s gold earrings as a gift for jewelry-loving individuals.
Find a gift for the newborns or kids in your life or their parents at Little High Flyers, an eco-friendly and socially conscious children’s boutique in Detroit. The small business features clothing items, toys, books, and more, so there is a great gift for kids of all ages.
If you’re looking for the perfect gift for a flannel lover or person who loves spending time outdoors, MuskOx Outdoor Apparel is the perfect small business to shop. Brad Hoos founded MuskOx in 2019 to bring the outdoors into people’s everyday lives. He also partnered with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) to support their work of protecting muskox and wildlife in Alaska. For every $10 spent at MuskOx, it donates $100 to AWCC. While anything from MuskOx could make a great holiday gift, its flannels are a classic.
Booklovers interested in positive multicultural stories would appreciate a gift from the Michigan-based bookstore, New Millenium Books. Owned by Jerome McMillan, New Millenium focuses on Black Americans and the African Diaspora with the mission to give the underserved and all youth and adults information, adventure, and education, and the opportunity to be included and see stories, heroes, and others who look like themselves. With ample book options available at the Holiday Market, as well as in its online shop, there’s a gift for everyone. One book recommended by Mr. McMillan, however, was Men of Color to Arms! Black Soldiers, Indian Wars, and the Quest for Equality by Elizabeth D. Leonard.
Nuts About Detroit
Find a holiday gift for your colleagues, family, or friends who like nuts at Nuts About Detroit’s pop-up shop. It is the only nut business that roasts locally in-house, in Michigan. The brand sells large and small assortments of nut-based treats, including unique chocolates, dried fruits, holiday tins and trays mixed with cashews, pistachios, and more. These treats are only available in individual quantities at the Holiday Market, as they typically sell in bulk for corporate gifts, so grab a couple of boxes before they’re all gone!
Founded in 2012 by Clare Fox and Wayne Maki, Mutual Adoration is an independent business that specializes in producing, selling, and teaching contemporary craft. In 2017, it transformed a former US Post Office into an open-concept studio, retail shop, and venue for craft workshops, now known as POST. It carries over 300 brands, all independent makers and artisans, with over 75% of the products being made in Michigan and 90% made by women-owned businesses. This variety means there is a gift available for every person in your life at this small business, with items available in the categories home and garden, frames and mirrors, kitchen and dining, kids and pets, body and bath, accessories, cards and office items, and more. One of the most popular gifts at POST is handmade soaps.
Preva Body is a community-based beauty supply shop based in Southeast Michigan, founded by Scott Boateng. Boateng opened Preva to give back to and empower the Black community. His business specializes in creating all-natural, vegan, and organic products with a specialty of whipped shea butter products, handmade soap, and body butters. Preva recently partnered with Hilary Parks’ Black-owned business, Zona CBD Oil, to create a CBD-infused shea butter, which Parks recommended as a great gift for anyone looking to have smooth skin.

Their store offers a variety of décor, including ornaments, wood décor, charcuterie boards, drinkware, DIY craft kits, and more. Many of their items carry a Detroit or Michigan theme, as well.
