Livernois: A College Student’s Getaway

Fall 2023 Let's Detroit Campus Influencer Asia Williams shares her favorite spots to go along Livernois, near her college campus at University of Detroit Mercy.

Livernois, a College Student’s Getaway

Attending the University of Detroit Mercy (U of D Mercy) has been a great experience, especially since I live on Detroit’s west side. U of D Mercy’s McNichols Campus is located on Livernois, which continues on to be a very active street. Just coming to and from campus puts you in front of many different stores, restaurants, and galleries that are owned by the community. These hot spots have been a great getaway during times when you need to get away from campus.

Here are a couple of those hot spots I enjoy.

Kuzzo’s Chicken and Waffle

Kuzzo’s Chicken and Waffles has amazing breakfast choices, but their chicken and waffles are delicious. They are available for pick-up and have Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub orders, so you can deliver them to your dorm. This is a hot spot brunch place that my friend and I always go to.

Good Cakes and Bakes

Good Cakes and Bakes has the very best cupcakes and cakes. They have amazing flavor, along with vegan options. I always get their strawberry cupcakes, and they are never a miss.

Three Thirteen Store

Three Thirteen is a Detroit brand that has quality clothing for the city’s different sports teams and, really, just Detroit merchandise. They collaborated with the Detroit Lions recently and are showcasing their new apparel in their store, which is very nice to see.

Skin Bar VII

Skin Bar VII is a luxury spa I have visited as a post-midterm treatment for myself.  They treated me so nicely that I planned my next spa trip not too long after. As a college student, stress tends to come easily, and I recommend this spa to all of my friends.

 Jo’s Gallery

Jo’s Gallery is an amazing art gallery that surprises me every time I walk in. It primarily features Black art that really catches your eye as you pass by the shop. In addition to showcasing the art, it also showcases some that visitors can buy.
