While in college, the stress of bills can consume a student but maintaining a job and school at the same time can become exhausting. These issues vary from student to student. You must choose what’s best for you. There are plenty of jobs in Michigan, but a job that will allow you to maintain a good balance between college and work can be scarce.
When trying to find a job as a college student, it’s important to voice that you are a student first and that your schedule may change due to exams and finals. Be sure to write out your class schedule and extracurricular activities so to that you can provide a potential employer with a schedule that works best for you.
One of the best places to look for a job as a student is on your own college campus. Your school is already aware that you are a busy student and is more willing to accommodate your schedule. Be sure to check out your college bookstore, dorms, fitness center, and academic buildings during your job search. At many colleges, working as a residential assistant provides students with free housing on campus and helps build professional skills, all while earning a paycheck.
Michigan has a variety of fast-food restaurant chains, including Chipotle Mexican Grill who supplies a convenient work schedule for students and provides tuition reimbursement. Chipotle offers 100% tuition-paid program options and will reimburse students up to $5,250 per year for select undergraduate programs and master’s degrees.
Bank of America provides another wonderful opportunity and allows employees who are undergraduate and graduate students to receive a tuition reimbursement of up to $7,500.

Being in college is hard, and maintaining college needs and responsibilities can become a distraction. Choose a job that will be able to give you grace while lifting some of the stress from school. Michigan is beautiful. Take a walk around your college campus, and you will more likely than see a “help wanted” sign. Do your research before taking on a job, and make sure that it fits with your schedule.
