Give Back During the Month of Love: February 2024 Volunteer Opportunities

There's no better way to celebrate the month of love than by spreading love and kindness in your community through volunteer work. Find February volunteer opportunities.

February is known for being a month dedicated to love, making it the perfect time to spread love and kindness in your community through volunteer work.

Check out upcoming and future volunteer opportunities in the Detroit Region below:

Project Linus

Project Linus is an organization that provides handmade blankets to children in the U.S. who are ill and in need. Prior to making any blankets, volunteers are encouraged to contact their local chapter. There are six chapters in Michigan, including the Dearborn/Wayne County chapter and the Troy/Eastern Oakland County chapter.

Coming up on Saturday, Feb. 17, is National Make a Blanket Day. Interested in participating? Contact your local chapter for more details.

Girls on the Run Greater Detroit

Are you interested in inspiring the next generation? Sign up to be a Girls on the Run Coach and help teach life skills through interactive lessons and running games. Girls on the Run coaches are trained volunteers who lead a team of girls in 3rd-8th grade through a season of impactful lessons, with a 5K running event at the end of the program.

Volunteers do not need to have prior running experience. Before making a commitment to coach, volunteers should keep in mind that teams meet twice a week for 75 minutes. Head coaches (21+) and coaches (18+) must attend all practices and participate in the 5k, while assistant coaches (18+) must attend at least one practice a week and participate in the 5k.

Volunteer applications for the spring 2024 season are open, with training starting at the end of February and the season beginning March 11.
