Virtual Fitness and Yoga
As we moved into what has become our temporary new normal, one of the first sectors hit were gyms and workout facilities. In response to the uncertainty of when we might be able to return to these spaces to get a sweat on, many have started to make their offerings available virtually. Perhaps, a silver lining to all the craziness, now is a great time to try group fitness classes from the comfort of your home.
You don’t have to worry if you look silly and can take things at your own pace without fear of judgment. Who knows, you might find something new that really works for you, and a place that your eager to join in-person when social distancing is a faint memory! Below is a list of local Southeast Michigan gyms, fitness studios, and group classes we’ve found so far. Let us know who we’re missing!
Detroit Yoga + Cycle Lab
17108 Mack Ave #15/100 - Grosse Pointe, MI 48230 USA
With locations in both Midtown and Grosse Pointe, they provide strong physical classes & spiritual connection. Currently, they are offering a variety of different yoga practices virtually via Zoom meetings. To participate you must pre-register for classes and will receive a zoom link with details to join. One class = $15 or 5=$50
2217 Franklin St - Detroit, MI 48207 USA
Located in a refurbished carriage house in the Riverfront/Warehouse District, Detroit Barre offers barre fitness classes designed to define and tone the muscles; with low impact, isometric exercises combining Ballet, Pilates and Yoga. Hosting online classes weekly through Instagram Live @detroit_barre, schedules can be found in their story highlights. Donations for participation are being accepted in $10 increments online under “Instagram Live! Barre Class Donation".
220 S Main St - Ann Arbor, MI 48104 USA
A community of Latin music and dance lovers, that specializes in salsa, mambo, bachata, merengue, cha cha, casino, and rueda de casino. Normally offering a variety of classes Tuesdays-Thursdays and Saturdays at their Ann Arbor studio, Dance revelation is offering free “Virtual Dance Jams” on Facebook Live every Thursday at 8pm. They are inviting participants to donate via Venmo to @DanceRevolution or via PayPal email@example.com
412 E 4th St - Royal Oak, MI 48067 USA
A functional movement facility focused on delivering fitness through community and experience. At their Royal Oak studio they offer three different streams (Pure Fit, Pure Strength, and Pure Stretch) along with nutrition coaching. Temporarily, classes have been moved online with two membership options. For $50 per month users receive 30 min daily workouts + the home workout library. For $100 per month users receive all that + Live Class 3x weekly, access to a private Facebook group, and daily challenges.

Located in Downtown Northville, Warehouse Pilates incorporates the traditional Pilates regime with different fitness modalities for an athletic style of training. Classes are being offered daily on Facebook Live. If you can’t make the live class, they are saving each workout on their Facebook and Youtube pages, so that you can participate when your schedule allows.
Iyengar Yoga Detroit
2321 Caniff St - Hamtramck, MI 48212 USA
A regional studio in Hamtramck that offers Iyengar Yoga classes for all levels and abilities. Iyengar Yoga emphasizes detail, precision, and alignment in the performance of yoga postures, accessible for all abilities & sizes. IYDC practices cooperative economics, and this continues as they move their offerings online via Zoom meetings. 1-2 classes are offered daily in their Zoom room, and participants are encouraged to donate via PayPal using their sliding scale Community Gift Model.
400 E 10 Mile Rd - Pleasant Ridge, MI 48069 USA
Located in Pleasant Ridge, Pulse Fitness typically offers personal training, group training, group classes, cardio conditioning, Shake Bar and open gym. Wanting to keep connected with the community , and understanding the importance of spreading knowledge & positivity; they are hosting 4-5 lives classes daily on Facebook, Instagram (@pulsefitnesslive) & soon via ClassPass - all for free! Classes are all designed to be body resistance workouts, or incorporate household items in place of weights. Class types offered virtually include cardio boxing, backpack bootcamp, HIIT, Ab shredder, household workout, Functional Movement, Cardio Dance, Stretch Performance, and A*** & Abs. If you can't join them live, all classes are downloaded to their app or accessible on their Youtube page afterwards.
