Bike Trails

Jason Hall

I’ve ridden almost every square mile of Detroit and, for seven years, I’ve been planning the routes for one of the biggest weekly bike rides in the world: Slow Roll Detroit. I’ve also been traveling all over the state with Pure Michigan, hosting Urban DNA, which has allowed me to ride most of Michigan’s trails.

What I love most about riding bikes in Southeast Michigan is the ability to ride so many different terrains in a short amount of time. I can be in an urban environment in Detroit and within a few hours I can be riding a top-notch mountain bike trail in Kalamazoo.

    Belle Isle

Belle Isle - Detroit, MI USA

Belle Isle is Michigan’s 102nd State Park, situated between Detroit and Canada with amazing coastal views of both the US and Canada. It’s six-mile loop is the perfect distance for a ride.

    Hines Park

Hines Park - North Merriman Road, Westland MI

The trail goes through Wayne County’s Hines Park. You can get on in Dearborn and ride straight through to the Ann Arbor Trail. You’ll pass all kinds of scenery including Green field Village. One of my favorite places to lose yourself in old world charm.

    Island Lake Recreation Area

Island Lake Recreation Area - Kensington Rd, Brighton MI

It’s only about an hour outside of the city so if you just need a quick get away for the day, here’s your spot. You get 12 miles along the Huron River and enough scenery to make your head spin. Great for first time Mountain bikers.

    Kensington Metropark

Kensington Metropark - Huron River Parkway, Milford MI

This is my secret chill spot. With an eight-mile paved trail, it’s the perfect place to get a bike ride in with a date. After the bike ride you can picnic, check out the nature center or hit the beach.

    Holly Recreation Area

Holly Recreation Area - Grange Hall Rd, Holly MI

We all know Michigan gets snow. One of the new trends in Mountain biking is the Fat Tire Bike. Hop on one and ride Mt. Holly’s groomed, five-mile trail.
