Explore Wyandotte’s History

Wyandotte is named after the indigenous Wyandot people who originally inhabited the area, starting in 1732. The Village of Wyandotte was founded in 1854 and quickly became a prominent industrial center due to its location on the Detroit River. It played a significant role in the production of steel, with the founding of Eureka Iron Works, the first U.S. mill to produce steel using the Bessemer Process. Over time, Wyandotte became a hub for other goods, ranging from ships to chemical products, with this industry remaining a staple today. B.A.S.F., a chemical plant, continues to operate in the city today.

Experience the Outdoors

Wyandotte boasts 28 parks and recreational areas, making it the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Take a stroll along the beautiful waterfront at Bishop Park, enjoy a picnic at Memorial Park with stunning views of the Detroit River, or catch a game of golf at the Wyandotte Shores Golf Course.
