After the last few years, things finally seem to be getting back to some sort of norm. As that happens, it’s fun to have things to look forward to, celebrate, and enjoy. So, I have gathered some events and things to attend and do this summer that will help us enjoy getting back to that norm. Whether you are a tourist or a long-term resident, I believe this list is still perfect because it consists of Detroit classics and the new things in Detroit.
Taking a trip to the zoo is a staple and must-do during summer in Detroit, whether it’s with your family or by yourself. There are many things at the zoo that you can enjoy, ranging from enjoying the animals to watching something in the 4D theater, taking a ride on the carousel or Tauber Family Railroad, and enjoying the many snacks and drinks they offer.
Another staple of summer in metro Detroit is the Woodward Dream Cruise. This year, it will be held on Aug. 20. It is an encapsulation of Detroit, where people go to celebrate all things automotive. Cars being the centerpiece pays homage to what this city was built on: the Big Three.
The Royal Oak Music Festival Rock ‘n’ Rides combines rock music and carnival rides with the goal of making rock music accessible and enjoyable to families.
Belle Isle is a park with a rich history and abundant natural beauty. It includes Ann Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, Belle Isle Aquarium, Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Belle Isle Nature Center, and the James Scott Memorial Foundation. All these places on Belle Isle make it perfect for a day out with your family or yourself.
For the third year, the Michigan Taco Fest came to Royal Oak, marking the start of summer. From July 1-4, metro Detroiters enjoyed a constant supply of tacos and live entertainment for all ages.
