There’s nothing better than giving back. Here are five volunteer opportunities that will allow you to make a positive impact this month.
Friday, September 6, from 7 to 8:45 a.m.
Belle Isle Beach, 2 Inselruhe Ave., Detroit, MI
Experience the beauty of Belle Isle and give back to your community. Join The Cleanup Club and Belle Isle Swim Club for a morning of beach cleanup; everyone is welcome to participate. Volunteers must complete a DNR waiver before or upon arrival. The Cleanup Club will provide all necessary cleanup materials. Bring your mug to enjoy the provided coffee, courtesy of James Oliver Coffee, or a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Work together to keep Detroit’s beautiful beaches clean while enjoying a great morning with friends and community.
Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Detroit Shipping Company, 474 Peterboro St. Detroit, MI
ReVamp is seeking volunteers for its summer clothing swap festival. The festival focuses on uniting fashion and sustainability while bringing communities together through clothing swaps. Volunteers are a necessity to execute these large-scale events. As a volunteer, you will gain access to free clothes, a meal during your break, their growing network, and the ability to support your community through sustainable service.
Wednesday, September 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wayne State Fieldhouse, 1290 West Warren Ave., Detroit, MI
Join 1,000 other volunteers on September 11 to pack 300,000 meals for people experiencing food insecurity in the local community. Various volunteer positions are needed, from table captains to set-up and break-down support. A week before the event, volunteers must attend a one-hour training session on Zoom. Shifts are approximately four hours.

They welcome individuals who can commit to shifts between 7 and 11 a.m., for two, three, or four hours. As a volunteer, you’ll work alongside its employees to assist guests with check-in, maintain a clean shower area, and help with laundry tasks.
