Adam Kopitz works as a Business System Analyst in the IT department at Cooper Standard. He is a great example of someone who forges their own career path, even when it is considered more unconventional.

Kopitz has worked for almost three years at Cooper Standard as a young professional in his career.

Learn more about his journey by reading his Q&A interview below:

1. What is your role at Cooper Standard and your career background?

I started at Cooper Standard in 2021 and moved into a role as business systems analyst. This is my first time working for an automotive supplier and learned of my interest in IT after spending more time here and I’ve started further growing my career. I originally graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in marketing and sports management in 2018.

2. Why Cooper Standard?

Since joining the company, I have really enjoyed working for an organization that fosters creativity and always strives for continuous improvements in all areas. The culture has been amazing, and everyone has been friendly and willing to answer my questions as a new professional. I’d describe it as a “one team, one dream” kind of mentality and atmosphere among this group.

3. What opportunities have you had?

I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of cool projects involving the Company’s digital transformation. I’m working on a project team involved with robotic process automation applying to different parts of the business for better process efficiency. The team is looking for ways to use technology and automate manual repetitive tasks users go through to free up their time for more important areas of focus. As part of my role, I’ve also had some opportunities to attend Artificial Intelligence showcases and bootcamps to see the future of possibilities. Seeing what other companies are doing with AI has been eye opening and sparked ideas for potential ways Cooper Standard can use AI to make informed decisions.

4. How would you describe the company culture?

The company culture at Cooper Standard is next level. New employees are welcomed at Cooper Standard with open arms. The whole organization is committed to excellence and that empowers employees to elevate their game. This commitment to excellence pushes people to do better through creativity, perseverance, and discipline.

5. Why should young talent explore careers here?

Aside from the culture, Cooper Standard is a leading global supplier of systems and components for the automotive industry. With a wide range of career opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, sales, finance, human resources, etc., you will find a path that is unique to your professional interests. Young talent should explore careers at Cooper Standard because you get the industry experience. With over 120 locations around the globe, employees get to work with international partners and learn different languages and perspectives, which is invaluable for career development. Additionally, perks and benefits include trainings, mentorships, on-the-job training, great insurance, 401K with matching, and more.

6. What advice would you give young talent searching for careers in the Metro Detroit area?

For young talent searching for their next career, I would highly suggest you do your research of the market and what industries are in demand. Detroit is known for it’s rich automotive heritage and has seen growth in recent years in certain areas including technology, healthcare, and finance. You should identify what industries align with your skills and interests. When you find companies you are interested in, learn about their company culture and how it would be a good fit for you. Don’t be afraid to leverage local resources and take advantage of job fairs, career centers, and networking events.

As my last piece of advice, always be looking for opportunities to further develop your skills.

7. What advice would you give your younger self?

“Follow your passion.” I know it sounds cliché, but following your interests and passion will lead to a much happier life. You want to be able to enjoy what you do every day, so find something that you truly have passion for.

8. What do you like to do outside of work?

When I am not at work, you can find me hanging out by the golf course or spending time with my kids. I also pursue photography of landscapes and animals in their natural habitat. This job in Michigan allows me to follow that passion because it’s a great place to take photos of all four seasons.

9. Are you from Detroit?

I’m originally from the area and choose to be here because all of my family is located in Metro Detroit. For me, family is a big part of my life. I also strongly believe Detroit offers a variety of different experiences that makes it such a great place.
