In June 2021, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II signed the proclamation to make June Pride Month in Michigan. On March 16, 2023, Whitmer signed into law a bill to amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) to include sexual orientation and gender identity or expression as legally protected civil rights. Affirmations – LGBTQ+ Community Center has been the hub for southeast Michigan LGBTQ+ communities and their allies for the last 30 years. They provide a welcoming space where people of all orientations, gender identities expressions, and cultures can learn, grow, socialize, and access the vital support they need.
Ruth Ellis Center – Founded in 1999, Ruth Ellis Center (REC) has established a national reputation for quality and innovation in providing trauma-informed services for lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth and young adults, with an emphasis on people of color, experiencing homelessness, involved in the child welfare system, and/or experiencing barriers to health and wellbeing.
June 7 | 5-10 p.m. | Depot Town
Ypsi Pride is an intentional and meaningful gathering, filled with celebration and time for reflection through programming, including music and special performances, and building community connection. Attendees can expect drag, burlesque, and theater performances, queer-owned vendors from the nearby area, organizations with track records of supporting the community, family-friendly activities, food trucks, and interactive art spaces.
June 8-9 | Hart Plaza Detroit
Motor City Pride is Michigan’s largest pride celebration, with over 65,000 participants. The festival has over 140 sponsors, vendors, nonprofits and food booths and over 50 entertainment acts. These booths will also have soft drinks and water available for purchase.The pride parade on Sunday begins at noon and offers free viewing along the entire parade route. Entrance into the festival is $5.00 and begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
June 12 | 4-9 p.m. | Royal Oak Farmers Market
Enjoy a fun-filled day at an inclusive community event support LGBTQ+ families and youth. The free event will feature live performances and a variety of local food trucks and vendors to indulge in. Plus, kids can participate in free face painting, balloon art, inflatable bounce houses, and craft tables.
June 15 | 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Civic Center Park
Celebrate Pride Month with the Livonia Human Relations Commission, Livonia Republican Club, and Livonia Democratic Club. This free event will include dozens of educational and support service organizations, light refreshments, activities for all ages, and a performance by “The Magic of Kobranis” at noon and 1:45 p.m. The Grilled Wrap food truck will also be available.
Attendees are welcome to donate personal care items and fast food gift cards to the Ruth Ellis Center during the event.
June 15 | Noon to 2 p.m. | The Village of Grosse Pointe (at the corner of Kercheval and St. Clair)
Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and leashed pups to WE GP’s 8th annual GP Pride. The free event will feature a short march, family-friendly drag performance, activities for children, a selfie station, activism opportunities, and more. The march will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with a speaker and the route will begin at 12:45 p.m.
June 15 | Noon to 4 p.m. | Anrook Park, Lapeer
Connect with the Lapeer community at PRIDE in the PARK. Enjoy raffles, face painting, food, and more during the free event.
June 21-22 | Noon to 11 p.m. | Downtown Wyandotte
Don’t miss the first-ever pride festival in Downriver Michigan. The two-day event will feature everything from food and artisan vendors to entertainment.
June 22 | Noon to 4:30 p.m. | Rochester Municipal Park
Stop by Rochester for the 4th annual Pride in the Park. Enjoy local businesses, LGBTQ+ organizations, food trucks, drag performances, musicians, poetry, and more.
June 23 | 1-5 p.m. | Berkley
Don’t miss Berkley’s Pride Block Party! Attendees will be able to enjoy not only a variety of booths, food vendors, and entertainment, but also eight couples getting married amidst the vibrant energy of the festival.
June 23 | 2 p.m. | Civic Center Park, Madison Heights
Enjoy a cozy atmosphere filled with vibrant colors and creativity at the annual Madison Heights’ hometown Arts and LBGTQ Pride Festival. Engage with local artists through interactive workshops, listen to music, and take part in face painting, caricatures, and more. This event is smaller and more sensory-friendly than other community festivals.
June 29 | 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. | Warren City Hall
Don’t miss Warren’s first-ever LGBTQIA+ Pride festival. The event promises a fun day filled with celebration, entertainment, community, and advocacy for the local LGBT+ community. Enjoy a vibrant parade, live performances, drag shows, drag story hour sessions, local vendors, educational resources, food trucks, and more. An adult-only afterglow is also being hosted at a local bar following the daytime family-friendly festivities, at 8 p.m.
June 30 | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. | McMorran Plaza, Port Huron
Enjoy over 50 vendors, community resources, live entertainment, a Pride March, food trucks, and more at the free Blue Water Pride Fest. Over 1,200 people attended Pride in downtown Port Huron in 2023 — join in this year as they strive to make it bigger. The Pride March will begin at 11 a.m.
