My story
My name is Chanice Petty, and from an early age, I have been involved in Detroit, including volunteering at my local churches to being a part of the Detroit Pal League. I have cheered my whole life while picking up other great hobbies in between, such as debate and volleyball. When I was graduating from Mumford High School, I needed to weigh all my options and do what was best for my mental health and that was to stay close to home but far enough for a little independence and ensuring a great education for myself. So, I chose Oakland University and for the past 2 years, it has been great!
My major
I never was positive about what I wanted for myself, but I knew I wanted to help my community in some way. I decided to major in criminal justice because I wanted to become a lawyer, and one day, a judge. I see the problems in the community and I believe this position will help me achieve my goals.
What I love most about Southeast Michigan
I love that everywhere you look there is a story behind the places you are looking at. Whether it’s an abandoned or new building, there will be a story from the past and present. I love that you can feel at peace here after traveling to other states. I love that you crave Detroit no matter where you are in life; from the food to the people and places.
