It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for — spring is in the air here in Michigan, and we simply cannot wait to get outside and soak up some much-needed sunshine. Check out these eight ideas for how to make the most out of the season in metro Detroit.
Baseball lovers, rejoice! Opening Day for the Tigers was April 6, and this season holds plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy a game at the beloved Comerica Park. Don’t miss the special themed events like Pink Out the Park on May 12 or Bark in the Park on May 30.
Is there anything better to do on a sunny spring day than making a visit to Belle Isle? Have a picnic in the park, walk along the riverfront, check out the plant paradise at the conservatory, see some sea creatures at the aquarium … the options are endless!
Farmers’ market season is back, and we couldn’t be happier. Find some fresh produce, plants, local foods, baked goods, art and more at Eastern Market’s weekly Saturday market, then end the afternoon by snapping some photos at all the Insta-worthy murals nearby. P.S. Don’t miss Flower Day on Friday, May 21, one of the season’s biggest events, to get all your favorite blooms!
They say April showers bring May flowers, but they also bring plenty of opportunities for indoor fun! Check out some art at the Detroit Institute of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit or the Cranbrook Art Museum; learn something new at Michigan Science Center; or explore important history at Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Motown Museum, Detroit Historical Museum or the Henry Ford Museum.
Downtown Street Eats begins in April, so you’ll have plenty of time to try some of Detroit’s best mobile eats! Stop by Cadillac Square or the Woodward Esplanade every weekday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to discover a new favorite from over 75 local food trucks.
Get some fresh air and move your body this season with a walk, jog or bike ride along the Dequindre Cut Greenway, a two-mile path that starts around Eastern Market and runs all the way to East Riverfront. If you’re up for a longer route, keep going along the beautiful and lively Detroit Riverfront!
Nothing beats patio season. Grab a drink or dinner with some friends at one of Detroit’s numerous amazing outdoor dining scenes. Just a few of our favorites include Detroit Shipping Company, Pinky’s Rooftop, The Congregation, Lumen, Ottava Via, Ima Izakaya, Coriander Kitchen and Farm, or Supergeil.
Enjoy the fleeting spring blooms at Cranbrook House and Gardens. With over 40 acres of flowers, plants, fountains, lakes, and more, plus a beautiful 1908 English Tudor-style house, this estate could have you wandering around for hours. And the best part? It’s free to the public!
