When entering college, I did not have a set path, but I knew from the beginning I wanted to be successful.
At first, I thought about going down the business route with business management, but I did not feel comfortable with that path. Then, I considered computer science. I had taken a couple of computer science classes during high school, but they didn’t really stick then. However, I figured I’d give it a shot. Even though I was not the best at computer science at the time, it would not hurt to give it another try – and once I did, I finally found my path.
One of the main reasons I felt a pull to computer science was due to my parents working for General Motors and Ford Motor Company. I saw the importance of what technology has given them and the impact they made using tech. I have also always loved computers, especially playing video games, and getting an under-the-hood look at all the mechanics excites me. So, I took a leap of faith in this new territory and have not looked back ever since.
Computer science is rewarding because the career will stand the test of time. The world will always need computer scientists to develop new technologies and expand our knowledge in the field. The opportunities amaze me as artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, and natural processing grows, only increasing tech’s capabilities. It is just exciting stuff!
I hope to help individuals with AI as more people see its relevance and appreciate how it uses data to drive decisions and logic that no human can make. My career goal after graduation is to work at a top company in a software engineer role or data scientist role. Some companies I have had in mind are Meta, Amazon, Databento, Goldman Sachs, Apple, Google, and Netflix.
After I feel like I’ve gained enough knowledge, I plan to start my own venture, creating an environment where I can work whenever I want and wherever.
