My story
My name is Nikki Hartley, and I am currently a junior at Wayne State University majoring in public affairs and economics. I live and work in Downriver and spend most of my time either there or in Detroit. My hobbies include working out, reading non-fiction books, cooking healthy new meals, and going out with friends. I’m a huge history nerd, an admirer of the great out doors, and a lover of the arts—all of which can be found right here in the metro Detroit area.
I work for the City of Taylor as an economic and community development coordinator. I also serve as one of the City’s recreation commissioners. At Wayne State, I am president of Campus Bible Fellowship and treasurer of a volunteer organization called Circle K.

What I love most about working in Southeast Michigan
The 313 area code is known for Motown and motors, but there’s so much more happening here. There’s hope and resilience in our community gardens, neighborhood non-profits, and local cafés. There’s an undefeatable spirit in every mural and unwavering strength in every piece of history. Yes—we have amazing food and events, but the real story is one you have to feel to believe.
