My story
My name is Bella, and I’m from Detroit. My hobbies include sewing and painting. I really enjoy making my own clothes and hair accessories, including bonnets and scrunchies. I’m very interested in working with my community. I’ve held different drives and worked with different organizations within Detroit. I chose my school because of the many opportunities available. Even though I’m only a sophomore, the scholarship program I’m a part of has set me up with so many different resources and opportunities to help me get to where I want to be.
I’m currently the vice president of the National Council of Negro Women UMich Chapter. This organization helps provide a safe space for Black women to discuss different issues and to be able to express themselves. I’m also a peer mentor under the Kessler Scholar program. This program helps first-generation students transition from high school to college and sets them up with different opportunities around campus.

What I love most about working in Southeast Michigan
I love that even though Detroit is so big, there’s still a sense of community. It seems as though everyone knows someone. It is also amazing how Detroiters are able to gather together when it comes to certain topics that we’re passionate about.
