The Black Legacy Advancement Coalition (BLAC) is gearing up to launch Health Is Wealth-Detroit, a full day wellness expo event in Eastern Market to celebrate health and community on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
In a press release, Dexter Sullivan, President of The Black Legacy Advancement Coalition, said, “We are bringing the city’s leading wellness experts and influencers together for an action-packed day full of unforgettable events and activities.”
The free event is designed to bring education, entertainment, and a space of restoration and healing through community conversations, performances, and prize giveaways. Activities will be open for all ages, including musical performances, a kid’s gym experience, workshops, fireside chats, food trucks, and giveaways provided by a wellness collection of sponsors valued at $1,200.
The Detroit Pistons will be giving away basketballs, water bottles, and back-to-school-ready backpacks to children and youth. Beyond Juicery + Eatery will be donating 300 free smoothies to adults, youth, and children that choose to exercise at the event throughout the day.
“This event will invoke feelings of an old-school block party while providing folks with a world-class education on improving all aspects of their health. We are bringing together some incredible vendors, sponsors, and panelists to provide a wide-range of resources to meet all your wellness needs,” said Tiffany Johnson, chief of staff for BLAC. “There will also be free health screenings and vaccination opportunities for children and youth just before the school year begins.”
The Detroit Health Department, Detroit Medical Center, Molina Healthcare, HealthCall Health Systems, Henry Ford Health, and United Healthcare will be providing free wellness screenings, testing, and vaccinations for attendees.
Other sponsors include Ally Financial, Baobab Fare Restaurant, Boll YMCA, Chef Maxcel Hardy, Comcast Business, The Detroit Lions, Eastern Market, Fifth Third Bank, Huntington National Bank, OrangeTheory Fitness, Peloton, The Skillman Foundation, Shinola Detroit, and Thrivent Financial.
The event encourages employers to become wellness partners with Health is Wealth by endorsing a 1-hour wellness break for their staff to visit the expo during the day.
