February 2022 Volunteer Opportunities

During the month of love, think about dedicating some of your time to causes that are making a difference. Take a look at some volunteer opportunities in metro Detroit this month.


Forgotten Harvest – Warehouse Packing

Support Forgotten Harvest and those in need by helping to re-pack fresh food. Shifts last three hours and are available on multiple dates and times in February.

Focus: Hope – Senior Food Packing

1200 Oakman Boulevard, Building B., Detroit, MI 48238

Volunteers are needed to support packing boxes of food for seniors. Volunteers will be set up in an assembly line and work quickly to fill boxes. Multiple opportunities are available during the week for three-hour time slots.

United Way – DIY Learning at Home Education Kits

Virtual/drop off

For volunteers looking to do service on their own time, this is for you. The United Way has created a supplies list for local families in need of educational materials. Sign up to create a box and drop it off when you’re ready.

Brilliant Detroit – Food Distribution

Brilliant Detroit and Gleaner’s Mobile Food panty have partnered to bring families in Chandler Park food. The next volunteer date will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteer service will take place outside and will require lifting boxes of at least 20 pounds.

Gleaners – Power Up with Protein Drive

Henry Ford Hospital Department of Nursing and Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan have partnered to host the annual drive utilizing Gleaner’s virtual shopping experience. Starting Feb. 18, the multi-day virtual event asks for support in various ways through cash and food donations. Event days include:

  • Kick-off Friday – Feb. 18
  • Money Monday – Feb. 21
  • Tuna Tuesday – Feb. 22
  • Thirsty Thursday – Feb. 24
  • Finale Friday – Feb. 26

Arts & Scraps – Various activities

Arts & Scraps is looking for a variety of support from volunteers, in-person or virtually. From helping to stuff, store, and pack kits, to joining a committee, there is something for everyone.
