Recap: The State of Youth Homelessness Amid Covid-19

On April 30, 2020, Let’s Detroit ambassador, Olivia Johnson, hosted Courtney Smith of Detroit Phoenix Center and Andrew Morton of Sofa Stories Detroit to discuss their joint project to elevate the voices of young people experiencing homelessness in Detroit. In case you missed it, catch the recorded presentation, conversation and special performance above.

Interested in supporting these efforts? The joint project is a winner of a Knight Arts matching grant which can be supported on Ioby here. The matching grant will fund the stipends for Detroit Phoenix Center writers and storytellers, plus local actors who will perform in person (fingers crossed) next year. Detroit Phoenix Center is continuing to accept food and hygiene product donations, volunteers for care package assembly and delivery, volunteers to host virtual professional development programming, as well as monetary donations for groceries, phone bills and rent. Learn more about Detroit Phoenix Center at www.detroitphoenixcenter.org  and Sofa Stories Detroit at www.sofastoriesdetroit.com
