Eastern Market is home to the largest open-air flowerbed market in the United States. The community surrounding the market is filled with an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, and shops.
Eastern Market is a historic, commercial district, located one-mile northeast of Downtown Detroit. It’s home to the largest open-air flowerbed market in the United States, as well as the largest public market district in the country. In 1978, Eastern Market was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Each Saturday, people from all over the Detroit Region head to Eastern Market for the farmer’s market, which is open year-round from 6 a.m.- 4 p.m. daily. Stop by the market to pick up fresh produce, meats, baked goods, flowers, and local art. From June through September, Eastern Market’s Sunday Market showcases the work of local artists, cooks, jewelers, musicians, and more while it’s Tuesday Market offers free Zumba and yoga classes.

Eastern market has more than 150 food and specialty businesses, including the popular Supino Pizzeria and Eastern Market Brewing Co. Be sure to check out People’s Records, which sells a diverse collection of used and new records. Though the Detroit Lions have official tailgating at Ford Field, many fans prefer Eastern Market as their home game tailgating spot.
Aside from being the city’s favorite market, Eastern Market has become an increasingly lively and diverse neighborhood. If you’re drawn to loft living, then this district is the place for you. Lofts are available to buy or rent as living spaces and workspaces. The Dequindre Cut, a 1.35 mile greenway, connects all the way from the Riverfront to Eastern Market and is perfect for walking, biking, running, and discovering unique artwork.

Eastern Market has a strong artistic reputation and is home to murals, internationally recognized galleries, studios, and maker spaces, including Wasserman Projects, The Red Bull House of Art, and OmniCorp Detroit. Live music from well-known jazz and blues performers can also be heard at Bert’s Market Place.
