I am a reader first and a writer second. I tend to let my interests lead me and I have been fortunate to be able to make a living as a curious generalist. One of the jobs I have cherished and enjoyed the most is my role as the events manager and bookseller at Pages Bookshop located in Detroit’s Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood. Working in a bookstore for the past two years and being a booklover for all my life has provided me with a lot of knowledge about and love for authors, books, and bookstores!
Bookstores give people the excuse they need to come together and have a meaningful conversation with one another. Books by themselves are magic, but altogether in a bookstore, they create a wonderful haven for everyone. You never know what you might find — book or conversation wise — when you walk into a bookstore.

Pages Bookshop
Pages Bookshop - Grand River Avenue, Detroit MI
Pages Bookshop is one of the coziest and browser friendly bookstores I have been in. Perhaps, I am slightly biased, but I have customers remark to me on an almost weekly basis how impressed they are by the selection of books and how comfortable they feel in the bookshop. Pip, the residential bookstore cat, is the cherry on top!

Source has a great selection of non-fiction books and I always know I can count on Ms. Janet, the owner, for a good book recommendation and lively discussion about current events both in Detroit and nationally.

John K. King Used & Rare Books - West Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit MI
If you want to spend an afternoon around books, you have to go to John King Books. I have spent a good chunk of time there just wandering among the rows and rows of used books and picking up and reading a little of any book that catches my eye. It's truly an experience.

KAN books is a co-operative bookstore that is dedicated to authors and artists of color in Michigan and around the globe. It serves as a cultural and literacy resource hub for the North End and holds community events as well.

Book Suey
Book Suey - Joseph Campau Avenue, Hamtramck MI
Book Suey is another co-operative bookstore in Hamtramck housed in Bank Suey. This bookstore has a great mixture of used and new books. They strive to be a safe and welcoming place and you can always get a lovely cup of tea and coffee as your peruse their selection.
