Sam White – Shakespeare in Detroit
Can Detroit be a great city without a thriving, robust, well-funded arts community? In this presentation by Sam White, founder of Shakespeare in Detroit, she makes the case for investing in the arts community in Detroit, highlighting the need for broader investment in a regional theater. Stronger investment in the performing arts would help retain a lot of the dollars that Michigan residents invest outside of the state for theater, and we’d be eligible to receive Tony awards, national press, and attract creative talent and tourism. She also shares that beyond the economic impact, Shakespeare in Detroit works with students to educate them on the opportunities working in the arts, ranging from production work using science and technology to creative roles in the performing arts.
