Detroit Up North connects Michigan’s makers, creatives, & entrepreneurs through collaborative events & experiences.
Blog post by Kelsey Hubbell
What started in 2012 as an intimate gathering of 40 Detroiters vacationing in Michigan’s Thumb, has grown from a few dozen to over 300 people making the trek each September. Event attendees come from diverse backgrounds, but have a shared love for travel, food and drink, music, and community. Detroit Up North connects Michigan’s makers, creatives, and entrepreneurs through collaborative events and experiences, including our annual weekend getaway in Port Austin.
This year will be the ninth summer we have brought Detroit “up north”, and we are looking forward to another jam packed weekend. The itinerary includes a group bike ride led by Detroit bike shop, Bikes & Coffee, kitchen takeovers featuring Detroit chefs, a cocktail menu curated by bartenders from Standby Detroit, and live music all weekend long featuring some of Detroit’s best acts.
The weekend vibe is nothing short of magical, with friends old and new building relationships they may have not had the chance to otherwise. It’s truly a celebration of Michigan’s great landscape, the opportunity to escape the everyday hustle, and the hardworking and creative people that live here.
