Van Buren Township is home to Willow Run Airport, the second busiest airport in Southeast Michigan, and Bellville Lake, the only lake in Wayne County.

The township has over eight miles of the Huron River and Bellville Lake, the only lake in Wayne County. The lake was created in the 1920s when Detroit Edison built the French Landing Dam to generate hydroelectric power. Encompassing 1,200 acres, it is Wayne County’s largest inland lake, and has an extensive parks and recreation system that includes five community parks, a sledding hill, picnic shelters, walking and biking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, boat launches, fishing piers and a beach. It is considered the jewel of the community and offers lake-front living at its best.
