Jocelyn Szymanski
My story

My name is Jocelyn Szymanski, and I am currently a freshman at Oakland University’s Honors College, majoring in general management and minoring in human resources. During my time on campus, I participate in the Women in Business, the Society for Human Resources, and H.O.M.E.S. Outside of school, I have been an active member of A.B.W.A. (American Business Women’s Association) and a part of the Let’s Detroit community for roughly two years. I am also a manager for Leo’s Coney Island and have been there for over two years. With my love of cities and working with people, Let’s Detroit has allowed me to meet many incredible people and discover some of my favorite places in metro Detroit.

how I got started

I started with Let’s Detroit just before COVID-19 when my mom introduced me to Let’s Detroit. From her knowing my love for the city and meeting new people, she knew I would love Let’s Detroit. Even though I was a minor at the time, I would always go to any events I could that Let’s Detroit would hold, hoping one day I would be more involved. Fast forward to now, I get to be a part of one of my favorite companies while being at one of the best colleges in Michigan. Since I was little, I knew Oakland University was my place. From being the safest college to having one of the best Business Programs, it was perfect for me.

What I love most about working in Southeast Michigan

The thing I love most about working in Southeast Michigan is connecting with so many different kinds of people who also have the same love for the city as I do. I think it is fantastic that everyone has a different story and interests but can still come together to share the things they love within the metropolitan area.
