My name is Christopher Bachis. I was born in Romania and immigrated to the United States when I was 2 years old. I grew up in Detroit most of my life until my parents decided to move to Chicago when I was 14 years old. I got married to my beautiful wife in the middle of a pandemic and have two beautiful dogs. I attended Purdue University for my undergrad, but I always wanted to move back to MI to work in automotive. Lastly, I am part owner of a Speakeasy in Detroit called Shelby which opened almost two years ago.
how I got started
I am the first person in my family to have gone to college. I received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and my master’s degree at University of Michigan Dearborn. My career started with Ford Motor Company, where I was in a rotational program. Three years later, I took a job at GM to help develop their autonomous vehicle with a company out in California. Fast forward a few years, I now work as a Business Development Manager for a Semiconductor company. This job has been fulfilling because we’re helping solve many supply chain issues in the automotive industry and helping propel the Autotech revolution.
What I love most about working in Southeast Michigan
I love working in Southeast Michigan because of the people who work here. Everyone has grit and perseverance. Whether you’re repairing bikes or an engineer, everyone in this city loves its roots and deep heritage in automotive. I love seeing the city come alive and Detroit becoming an automotive tech hub.
